Dr. Ekaete George is a Nigerian poet, communication scholar, and gender and development advocate whose work bridges literature, communications, gender, public health and environmental justice, and social change. She holds a PhD in Communication Studies, with specialization in Development Communication, from the University of Port Harcourt, and is the author of three poetry collections: Saints and Scoundrels, Hurricane Lover, and I Have Walked These Roads Before.
Beyond writing and research, Ekaete is a global community organizer, advocate, and leader. She has played a leading role in advancing the work of the International Communication Association (ICA) in Nigeria, including serving as founding Chair of the ICA Nigeria Chapter and helping to create platforms for Nigerian and African communication scholars to engage more actively with global communication research networks. Her commitment to literary organizing spans more than two decades through the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA), where she has been a member since 2001 and has served as Assistant Secretary of the ANA Cross River State Branch, as well as Treasurer, Financial Secretary, and Vice Chairman of the ANA Rivers State Branch. Together with her advocacy work through Red Eyes Development Initiative (REDi) and other media platforms, these roles reflect her commitment to gender and development justice, inclusion, visibility, community, and stronger Global South participation in public and international knowledge spaces.
